the launch of SOHO

Hurricane Erin hit Florida just after SOHO arrived at the Kennedy Space Center and SOHO had to be stored in a large hanger to keep it safe. The hurricane’s winds were ferocious and the large outer doors to the SOHO hanger were badly damaged, but luckily, when things had calmed down, SOHO was found safe inside, without even a scratch.

SOHO was launched in December 1995 using an Atlas IIAS rocket. It then took three months to cruise to its operational location 1.5 million kilometres from Earth.

Here are some movies of SOHO's launch.
